Why Contractors Come to Gulfroot
Chrysophyllum oliviforme is one of the most visually distinctive Florida native trees — every leaf is deep green on top and gleaming copper-gold on the underside, so every gust of wind reveals a flash of metallic color across the canopy. Landscape architects who know it specify it immediately for specimen placements. The problem: almost no SWFL nursery or contractor stocks it or has content about it at estate scale. It is genuinely rare in the trade. Gulfroot sources through Homestead specialty native growers.
SWFL Field Performance
Zone 10–11. Full sun to part shade. Drought tolerant once established. High salt tolerance — native to South Florida coastal hammocks and keys. Evergreen. Grows to 25–35ft with a dense upright to spreading canopy. The copper-gold leaf undersides are the defining ornamental feature — a characteristic no other SWFL native tree replicates. Florida native — counts toward native vegetation requirements. Listed as a species of special concern in some Florida counties due to habitat loss; nursery-grown specimens are appropriate for landscape use.
Direct from Homestead — not through a distributor.
