Why Contractors Come to Gulfroot
Cuban Laurel at trained specimen scale — globes, standards, and dense 25G hedge runs — is sourced directly from Homestead specialty growers who maintain form for years before sale. This is the plant Fernando Wong uses more than almost any other in his Palm Beach and Miami estate work. Local retail supply tops out at 7G un-trained stock. Specimen forms require direct Homestead sourcing. Note: Ficus retusa is listed as a FLEPPC Category I invasive in Florida. Site with awareness of this designation; contractors should verify compliance with any project-specific plant palette restrictions.
SWFL Field Performance
Zone 10a–11. Full sun to part shade. Moderate salt tolerance — suited for protected coastal settings, not direct spray. Fast-growing once established; responds exceptionally well to formal shaping and tight maintenance. Aerial roots can develop at high humidity — a feature or a consideration depending on the planting context. Not for sites within 200ft of natural areas where fruit drop could cause naturalization.
Direct from Homestead — not through a distributor.
