Why Contractors Come to Gulfroot
Aloe barberae is the largest aloe species in existence — it grows into a tree, not a ground-cover plant. Mature specimens reach 30–40 ft with a branching canopy of succulent rosettes that has no analog in the landscape palette. Florida search results for tree aloe are dominated by Amazon liners and plug plants. No SWFL nursery or contractor has a web presence targeting estate-scale specimens. Gulfroot can source through Homestead growers who maintain field-grown material.
SWFL Field Performance
Zone 10–11. Full sun. Highly drought tolerant — one of the most drought-resistant specimens in SWFL cultivation. Moderate to high salt tolerance. Native to southern and eastern Africa; established in coastal Florida. Slow-growing — field specimens represent years of grower investment. Not frost-hardy — coastal and southern SWFL only. Excellent for xeriscape estate projects and resort botanical collections where water efficiency is a requirement.
Direct from Homestead — not through a distributor.
