Why Contractors Come to Gulfroot
Copernicia macroglossa is the Cuban Petticoat Palm — named for the skirt of persistent dead fronds that cling to the trunk in a dramatic petticoat formation. It is one of the most visually distinctive palms in existence and essentially impossible to find at SWFL nurseries or through standard distributors. We source it through specialty Homestead growers who work in rare Cuban species.
SWFL Field Performance
Zone 10–11. Full sun. Drought-tolerant once established. Slow-growing — field specimens represent significant investment in time. Native to Cuba; performs well in South Florida's subtropical climate. Not cold-hardy — suitable for coastal and southern SWFL only. Not for Babcock Ranch or inland frost zones.
Direct from Homestead — not through a distributor.
