Why Contractors Come to Gulfroot

Ficus macrophylla grows into one of the largest and most architecturally dramatic trees in cultivation — massive buttressed surface roots that create cathedral columns at the base, and a spreading canopy that can shade an entire estate courtyard. Landscape architects specify it by name for botanical collections and singular property-defining placements. No SWFL nursery or landscape contractor has a web page addressing this species at estate scale. For contractors who have a designer spec calling for Moreton Bay Fig, there is currently no local trade source to call. Gulfroot sources through Homestead specialty growers who maintain field-grown specimens.

SWFL Field Performance

Zone 10–11. Full sun. High water during establishment; drought-tolerant once rooted. CRITICAL: The buttressed root system can extend 30–50 ft and will damage pavement, pool decking, foundations, and irrigation infrastructure. This tree requires substantial setback from all structures — plan minimum 40 ft clearance at maturity. Not cold-hardy — coastal and southern SWFL only. Not suitable for Babcock Ranch or inland frost zones. Slow to moderate growth rate; field specimens represent significant investment in time.

Direct from Homestead — not through a distributor.
