Why Contractors Come to Gulfroot
Caesalpinia granadillo is named for its extremely fine-textured, lacy pinnate foliage that creates a soft, cascading canopy — unlike the bold foliage of most SWFL trees. Yellow flower clusters appear from spring through summer. Landscape architects who have worked in the Caribbean or South America recognize it immediately and specify it for projects where they want something beyond the standard SWFL tree palette. It is exceptionally rare in the local trade — almost no SWFL nursery carries it at 25G specimen size. Gulfroot sources through Homestead specialty growers.
SWFL Field Performance
Zone 10–11. Full sun. Drought tolerant once established. Moderate salt tolerance — suitable for protected coastal and inland estate settings. Semi-deciduous: drops some foliage in the dry season before reflush. Grows to 20–35ft with a graceful, weeping, open canopy. The extremely fine-textured foliage creates a delicate light effect under the canopy that heavier-leafed trees cannot replicate. A genuinely rare species in the SWFL trade.
