Why Contractors Come to Gulfroot
Rapanea punctata is a clean-looking, medium-textured native shrub that fills the gap between Wax Myrtle (fast and wild-looking) and Cocoplum (slower and more formal). It is consistently specified on Florida-friendly and native-required landscape plans across Lee and Collier counties, but supply is thinner than the headline native hedges. Contractors who need it in volume have to work to find it. Gulfroot sources through Homestead native specialists.
SWFL Field Performance
Zone 9b–11. Full sun to part shade. Drought tolerant. Moderate to high salt tolerance. Florida native — counts toward native vegetation compliance. Dense, upright growth to 10–15ft; maintains at 4–8ft as a sheared hedge. Small berries attract birds. Less aggressive growth rate than Wax Myrtle — easier to maintain at a target hedge height without constant trimming.
Direct from Homestead — not through a distributor.
