SWFL Field Performance
Zone 9–11. Full sun. High drought tolerance once established — this species evolved in arid desert conditions and is one of the most drought-tolerant palms in cultivation. Moderate salt tolerance. Produces edible Medjool dates — relevant for estates with outdoor kitchen design programs (fruit production is a feature, not a problem). Male and female trees exist; single-sex plantings do not produce fruit — for fruiting installations, confirm sex at order. Not recommended for wet sites — exceptionally well-drained soil required.
