Why Contractors Come to Gulfroot
Latania lontaroides (Red Latan Palm) is a large fan palm native to Réunion Island with a dramatic silhouette and distinctive red-tinged juvenile fronds. It is almost never found in SWFL nursery stock. Contractors who specify it for estate or resort projects typically face months of searching. Gulfroot sources through Homestead specialty growers who work in rare fan and feather palms.
SWFL Field Performance
Zone 10–11. Full sun. Drought-tolerant once established. Moderate salt tolerance. Grows to 40–50 ft at maturity — suited for large estate or commercial scale. Slow to moderate growth rate. Not cold-hardy — best suited to coastal and southern SWFL. Not recommended for inland frost zones or Babcock Ranch.
Direct from Homestead — not through a distributor.
