Why Contractors Come to Gulfroot
Crinum augustum 'Queen Emma' has broad burgundy-purple strap leaves and produces fragrant, deep pink flower clusters on tall stalks spring through summer. It is a long-lived, clumping bulb that gets more dramatic every year as the clump expands. Pool designers and estate garden contractors use it constantly for its tropical boldness and low maintenance — once established it is nearly indestructible in SWFL. Despite being a contractor staple, there is almost no SWFL trade-focused content for it. Gulfroot carries it in 7G from Homestead.
SWFL Field Performance
Zone 9b–11. Full sun to part shade. Moderate water — tolerates brief drought once established. Moderate salt tolerance. The bold burgundy-purple strap leaves grow 3–4ft long and 4–5in wide, creating a dramatic clump form. Fragrant pink flower stalks reach 3–4ft in spring and summer. Clumps expand year over year — space 3–4ft apart for mass planting. Very long-lived in SWFL conditions; established clumps are essentially permanent. Remove spent flower stalks and old leaves to maintain appearance.
